What is a domain name?
A domain name is the readable address of your website — for example, yourbusiness.com.ng. Every business website needs a domain name to be accessible online.
What is the difference between .com.ng and .ng?
.com.ng is the most widely used Nigerian domain extension for businesses. .ng is shorter and increasingly popular for startups and tech companies. Both signal to visitors that your business is Nigerian.
What is domain locking?
Domain locking prevents unauthorised transfers of your domain to another registrar. It is enabled by default on all Hostking domains and can be unlocked at any time from your client area.
Can I pay for a domain with Flutterwave?
Yes. All domain registrations can be paid for in Naira via Flutterwave using your Nigerian bank card, bank transfer or USSD.
How long can I register a domain for?
You can register most domains for 1 to 10 years. We recommend enabling auto-renewal to avoid losing your domain when it expires.
What if my domain name is already taken?
If your preferred domain is unavailable, try a different extension (.ng, .com, .online) or use our domain search tool to find smart alternatives.
Is a free .com.ng or .com domain included with hosting?
Yes. A free .com.ng domain is included with all annual Hostking hosting plans, and .com from Starter up.
How fast is domain registration?
Most domain registrations are instant once payment is processed via Flutterwave. Your domain will be active and ready to use immediately.
What is the difference between a domain and hosting?
A domain is your online address, while hosting is the server space where your website files live. Both are required to run a website. See our web hosting plans.
Can I transfer my existing domain to Hostking?
Yes. Unlock your domain at your current registrar, request the EPP transfer code and initiate the transfer. Our support team can guide you through the process.
Why is the renewal price higher than the first year?
The first-year price is a promotional rate for paying annually up front. The renewal is our standard catalogue price, and we print it on every plan card rather than hiding it in the terms, so there are no surprises in year two.
Why register a .com.ng domain?
A .com.ng domain signals to Nigerian customers that your business is local and established. It builds trust, improves your local Google Nigeria search visibility, and is often preferred by Nigerian consumers and businesses alike.
A .com.ng domain combined with reliable Nigeria web hosting gives your business a strong, credible online presence.
